Brazil Takes Global Leadership in Agribusiness Commodity Exports
Mar, 20, 2025 Posted by Denise VileraWeek 202512
Brazil reached a historic milestone by becoming the world’s largest exporter of agribusiness commodities, surpassing the United States. According to a study by Insper Agro Global, the country recorded US$137.7 billion in exports in the sector in 2024, exceeding the volume exported by the U.S. by US$14.4 billion.
The growth in Brazilian exports is linked to record grain harvests and the ongoing trade war between the U.S. and China, strengthening Brazil as the main supplier of agricultural products to the Chinese market. “Brazil is a global benchmark in agribusiness exports and has increased its productivity per hectare, which drives the expansion of the international market,” emphasizes Sandro Marin, director at Tek Trade, a Santa Catarina-based company involved in import and export in Brazil.
The chart below features data derived from Datamar’s DataLiner. It shows the monthly export volume of soybeans between January 2021 and January 2025.

Data from the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAPA) show that Brazilian agribusiness exported US$11 billion in January, the second-highest value in the historical series. During the same period, Brazil opened 24 new markets, with notable highlights including Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Turkey. Products such as meats, cellulose, orange juice, and cocoa contributed to this advancement.
Marin points out that, despite the opportunities, the sector needs to address challenges such as currency fluctuations and trade barriers. “Maintaining the leadership requires strategic vision, investments in infrastructure, and adding value to the products since in total agribusiness exports, we still lag behind the U.S.,” concludes the expert.
