The Brazilian federal government will hold this year’s first port terminal concession auction on August 21, the Ministry of Ports and Airports said on Friday (28). Terminals to be auctioned are at the Port of Recife, in Pernambuco state, Port of Rio de Janeiro, in Rio de Janeiro state, and Port of Rio Grande, in Rio Grande do Sul state. The auction was originally set to take place in May but was rescheduled because of the floods that hit southernmost state Rio Grande do Sul.

Brazil expects investments at USD 14 million

According to information from the ministry, Recife’s terminals to be auctioned are REC08, REC09, and REC10. REC08 is focused on the throughput of solid bulk exports of vegetable origin, like malt, wheat and corn. The other two handle solid bulk and general cargo. Terminal RDJ06 in Rio de Janeiro stores and handles liquid bulk, whereas RIG10 at the Port of Rio Grande handles and stores general cargo.

Combined investments in the five areas add up to BRL 78.3 million (USD 14.2 million) All terminals will be leased for a maximum of ten years, with no possibility of extending the contract. Details of the auction to be held at São Paulo’s B3 will be published on the Official Gazette.
