Driven by strong demand, Brazilian producers are prepared to expand their soy area for the 15th consecutive year, according to a survey by consulting firm Datagro, on Friday.
The world’s largest soybean producer and exporter will increase its planted area by 4%, to 40.57 million hectares in the 2021/2022 cycle, said Datagro, which estimated that Brazil will produce around 144.06 million tons of soybeans in the next harvest; farmers will start planting around September.
If confirmed, next year’s production, which is harvested from the end of January, will be 5% higher than the 136.96 million tons of production estimated in 2021.
The chart below shows a comparison of Brazilian exports of soy and corn in the period from January to May in the last five years. Data are from DataLiner:

The first corn plantings in Brazil will also expand by around 4% to 4.56 million hectares in the new season, as demand for corn – a key ingredient for cattle feed – remains strong, projections show.
