Brazil to promote Port of Itajaí concession project across October
Sep, 27, 2022 Posted by Gabriel MalheirosWeek 202239
To promote and expand the dialogue with companies and business groups interested in the concession of the Port of Itajaí in Santa Catarina, the Special Secretariat of the Investment Partnerships Program of the Ministry of Economy (Seppi), the Ministry of Infrastructure (Minfra), and the Planning and Logistics Company (EPL) will hold project presentation meetings.
The meetings will take place on October 3, 5, 7, 10, and 14 in an online format. They will be pre-scheduled with the enrolled participants, will last up to one hour, and can be held in either Portuguese or English.
Those interested in participating must fill out a specific form (available in Portuguese/English). Registration is open until September 30.
The Port of Itajaí concession – authorized at the 13th meeting of the PPI Board through Resolution No. 121 of June 10, 2020, converted into Decree No. 10,484, on September 10, 2020 – authorizes the future contract holder to manage the port administration in addition to container operations directly.
The concession project aims to modernize port management and attract new infrastructure investments of BRL 2.9 billion. The bulk of investments will be destined for erecting the terminal, purchasing equipment, and promoting improvements in the mooring and waterway systems.
The contract has a term of 35 years, renewable several times up to a limit of 70 years, at the discretion of the Ministry of Infrastructure. The company that offers the highest bid will leave the auction victorious.
See below the track record of both exports and imports at the Port of Itajaí from January 2021 to Jul 2022. The data is from DataLiner.

The National Waterway Transportation Agency (Antaq) received contributions from civil society during a public consultation held earlier this year, which led to several readjustments in the project.
Thus, the soon-to-be-held meetings have the purpose of presenting the readjusted project to the market and providing an avenue for interested companies to ask their questions and make possible suggestions.
Currently, the concession of the Port of Itajaí is under analysis by the Federal Audit Court (TCU). After the Court’s approval, the call for bids will be published alongside the announcement of the auction date.
