Brazil tops USD 300 bn in exports for 2nd consecutive year

The third week of November came to a close with a trade surplus of $1.963 billion, along with a trade flow of $10.148 billion. This was the result of exports totaling $6.055 billion and imports of $4.092 billion. The figures were released on Monday (20) by the Foreign Trade Secretariat of the Ministry of Development, Industry, Trade, and Services (Secex/MDIC).
For November 2023, exports amounted to $17.226 billion, while imports reached $11.222 billion, resulting in a $6.003 billion surplus and a trade flow of $28.448 billion. Year-to-date exports stood at $300.014 billion, and imports stood at $213.502 billion, with an end result of $86.512 billion on the surplus and a trade flow of $513.516 billion.
Month-on-month comparison
In terms of exports, there was a 13.3% increase between the averages up to the third week of November 2023 ($1.56 billion) and November 2022 ($1.38 billion). When comparing the averages up to the third week of November 2023 ($1.02 billion) to November 2022 ($1.07 billion), imports fell by 4.9%.
Thus, the trade flow averaged $2.58 billion per day until the third week of November 2023, while the balance averaged $545.76 million per day. In contrast to the average for November 2022, there was a 5.3% increase in trade flow.
Exports by Sector and Products
The performance of the sectors – measured in terms of the daily average of exports from January to November – was as follows: the agricultural sector saw growth of $79.97 million (32.2%), the extractive industry saw an increase of $86.9 million (24.7%), and the manufacturing sector saw growth of $19.77 million (2.6%) in products.
Imports by Sector and Products
The performance of sectors by daily average up until the third week of November 2023 was: a decrease of $2.01 million (-9.8%) in agriculture; a decrease of $18.93 million (-23.0%) in the extractive industry; and a decrease of $24.79 million (-2.6%) in products of the manufacturing industry.
