
Brazil: trade balance reaches USD 638.3m in 2nd week of October

The Brazilian trade balance registered a surplus of US$ 638.3 million in the second week of October (10th to 16th). The data were released on Monday, October 17, by the Foreign Trade Secretariat (Secex) of the Ministry of Economy. The weekly balance resulted from exports of US$ 5.579 billion minus imports of US$ 4.941 billion.
As for the month, the trade balance accumulated a surplus of USD 2.126 billion, with exports of US$ 13.035 billion and imports of US$ 10.908 billion. The cumulative balance reflects a 28.2% growth in exports compared to October 2021, as measured by the daily average, while imports rose 18% on the same basis.
According to information from the government, Brazil saw, up to the second week of October, increases in agricultural exports (+99%) and exports from the manufacturing industry (+34.7%). However, as for international sales from the extractive industry saw a fall of 22.7%.
The extractive industry (+16.6%) and the manufacturing industry (+20.5%) saw an increase in arrivals on the import side. On the other hand, agriculture-related purchases decreased by 13.6%.
In the year, up to the second week of October, the trade balance recorded a surplus of US$ 49.845 billion. Exports totaled US$ 266.718 billion in the period and imports US$ 216.873 billion.
