Brazilian Agribusiness Exports Drop 9.5% in August Amid Lower Corn Production
Sep, 20, 2024 Posted by Sylvia SchandertWeek 202438
Data from the Secretariat of Commerce and International Relations of the Ministry of Agriculture shows that in August, Brazilian agribusiness exports totaled $14.1 billion, a value 9.5% lower than the $15.6 billion recorded in the same month last year.
The performance is driven by a drop in revenue, reflecting the devaluation of several products, and a decrease in volume, where the decline was more significant. One of the most notable reductions was in the export of corn from Brazil, which fell by 35% in the month, largely due to a reduced harvest severely affected by weather conditions this year.
The following graph uses data derived from DataLiner to show the month-by-month progression of corn exports from Brazil between January 2021 and June 2024. A demonstration is available upon request via the link below.
