Brazilian beef exports exceeded 200,000 t in March, breaking yet another record

Total beef exports reached 203,490 tonnes in March, up 28% year-on-year. According to the Brazilian Meatpacking Association (Abrafrigo), that was a record for the month.
The revenue generated from the sale of in nature and processed products abroad grew 57% in the period to 1.124 billion dollars, an all-time high for March, confirmed the organization based on data from the federal government.
“In addition to the growth in exports, average product prices rose from US$4,415 (per ton) last year to US$5,319, considering the first three months of the year,” Abrafrigo said in a note.
March’s performance was second only to the movements recorded in September and August 2021.
Beef exports totalled 545,751 tonnes from January through March, 33% more than in the same period in 2021. Revenues totalled US$2.9 billion, an increase of 60%.
China continues to lead among importers, with 188,236 tonnes in the quarter (+30.6%).
“When added to sales to Hong Kong, beef exports to China totalled 275.3 thousand tonnes and 1.658 billion dollars, a share of 50.45% and 57.11%, respectively, in relation to total exports from the first quarter.”
Also according to Abrafrigo, the United States ranked second in the quarter, with 69,799 tonnes (+395%).
Egypt ranked third with 47,706 tonnes (+262%), while Hong Kong alone had purchased 29,566 tonnes (-49%), in the fourth position.
