Brazilian beef exports have again shown expressive figures after the record-breaking volume export in January. Last month, the volume shipped reached 159.1 thousand tonnes, up 55.8% compared to February 2020, according to the Foreign Trade Secretariat (Secex).
The results were even better in terms of revenue. Nearly US$ 889.4 million were collected in February this year, an increase of 91.9% over the same period of 2021.
“These numbers prove that Brazil is undergoing a moment of great performance. The country continues to stand out and be competitive, gaining space in markets such as Australia, the United States, and Argentina. In addition, trade with China makes a brutal difference in terms of volumes and revenue,” points out Safras & Mercado analyst Fernando Iglesias.
According to the analyst, beef shipments will likely remain heated for the next few months, with sales exceeding the 140,000-tonne mark, as had already happened early in the year.

On top of adding momentum to Brazilian beef sales, the Chinese market keeps the “China quality standard beef” price competitive. “If the amount paid for this product was R$335 in São Paulo at the beginning of the year, now the value has increased to R$ 360. This meat cut is in great demand in the market, which is very advantageous for the rancher.”
War and beef market
According to Fernando Iglesias, the war in Ukraine is not currently a problem for Brazilian beef. “Both Ukraine and Russia receive very small amounts of beef from Brazil.” However, it could impact the negotiations initiated by the Minister of Agriculture to increase quotas to the Russian market. Still, given the current situation, the conflict should put on the negotiations hold.”
