Brazil exported 808,000 tons of beef (fresh and processed) in the first semester of 2021, or 3.2% less than in the same period in 2020 when shipments totaled 909,000 tons. The data were released this Tuesday by the Brazilian association of meatpackers, ABRAFRIGO, which used data from the Foreign Trade Secretariat (SECEX).
The revenue in the first six months of the year grew 4.4% in the same comparison, to US$ 4.08 billion. In the first half of 2020, sales abroad generated US$ 3.91 billion.
China was the biggest buyer of Brazilian beef in the first half, with 58.9% of total exports and revenues of US$ 2.41 billion. The United States, Chile, Philippines, and Egypt complete the group of the five largest importers.
In June, the sector exported 165,600 tons of fresh and processed beef, sales that generated revenues of US$ 837 million. Compared to June 2020, volume dropped 6%, and revenue grew 3%.
