Brazilian businessmen unite to import steel scrap from Turkey
Jul, 13, 2021 Posted by Ruth HollardWeek 202128
A large shipment of imported steel at the initiative of Brazilian developers arrived at the Port of São Francisco do Sul, in Santa Catarina last week. With the high prices of the input in the domestic market, the action was intended to ensure the supply of the material at a more competitive cost for companies, which was around 5% below the Brazilian market.
In partnership with CBIC (the Brazilian construction Industry chamber of commerce), at the end of 2020, Coopercon SC (the civil construction cooperative of the state of Santa Catarina) set up a group of companies interested in acquiring imported steel and, at the end of February, they imported 20,000 tons. There were 137 companies from eight Brazilian states that got together to bring an entire ship of steel from Turkey.
Roberth Meinert, manager of the entity, said that “The cargo arrived at the port, was unloaded and nationalized. We have now started deliveries to all the companies that participated in this first batch of CooperconSC steel imports, in 2021. We remain firm in the project to guarantee the supply of high-quality materials, in accordance with all Brazilian standards.”
