Brazilian Chicken Meat Exports Dip in January Following Record Highs in 2023

Domestically in Brazil, poultry product prices have surged at the beginning of this month across most monitored regions by Cepea. Researchers attribute this boost to increased demand, driven by the receipt of salaries (and the subsequent rise in purchasing power among the population) and the anticipation of sales due to the upcoming Carnival period on February 12th and 13th.
The chart below shows poultry exports through Brazilian ports between Jan 2020 and Dec 2023. The data is from DataLiner.

However, concerning exports, after hitting record highs in 2023, Brazilian shipments of chicken meat declined in January. This drop reflects reduced purchases from the country’s main trading partners in Asia and the Middle East. According to data compiled by Cepea from Secex, 404.9 thousand tons of chicken, including fresh and processed products, were exported, marking a 13.3% decrease from the previous month and a 3.8% decline compared to January 2023.
