Recent coffee promotion initiatives in China have sparked expectations of generating $6.715 million in business for Brazilian companies over the next twelve months. This estimate comes from the Brazilian Specialty Coffee Association (BSCA), which conducted the actions in partnership with the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency (Apex-Brasil).
On March 26, Brazilian entrepreneurs took part in a business roundtable at the Hongqiao Import Commodity Exhibition and Trade Center. According to the BSCA, this is a permanent exhibition space dedicated to selling products via e-commerce. Brazilians made 119 business contacts, resulting in $1 million in deals closed and another $552,000 expected by March 2024.

Between March 27 and 30, firms partook in Hotelex Shanghai 2024, which, according to the BSCA, is one of Asia’s leading hospitality, restaurant, and café events. The business contacts resulted in $2.540 million in closed deals and $2.623 million for the next 12 months.
“Our intelligence service identified the strong potential of China as a coffee consumer several years ago. Today, we are starting to reap the rewards of this accurate perception, enabling the opening of a new and immense market,” said Vinicius Estrela, executive director of the BSCA, in a statement.
According to the BSCA, China became the sixth-largest buyer of Brazilian coffee last year. The country is considered one of the “target markets” of “Brazil. The Coffee Nation” project, aims to promote Brazilian coffee classified as high-quality in the international market.
Federal government data compiled by the Brazilian Coffee Exporters Council (Cecafé) indicates that the Chinese purchased 1.518 million bags in 2023. This marked a significant increase from 2022, when purchases were just over 414,000 bags, and the country ranked only 20th among destinations for Brazilian coffee products.
