Brazilian corn exports fell sharply in 2021

Brazilian corn exports fell sharply in 2021. The country exported 20,4 million tons compared to 34,4 million tons in 2020. The most significant decrease occurred in Mato Grosso, which saw its exports drop from 22 to 15 million tons, and Goiás, whose exports went from 3.9 million tons to 994 thousand. The crops were affected mainly by the weather.

In terms of this season, producers anticipate that while domestic prices remain above parity, the flow of exports will be redirected to the animal protein industry as high-value animal feed.

Despite the strong tendency of decreasing cereal exports, one cannot overlook the continued emphasis on Brazilian corn operations destined to the Arco Norte region, where the ports of Itaqui (MA), Barcarena (PA), and Itacoatiara (AM) yielded better results compared to the previous season.
