Brazilian egg exports (including fresh and processed products) soared 150% in the first half of 2023, compared to the same period in 2022, according to the Brazilian Animal Protein Association (ABPA). In total, 16,600 tonnes of eggs were shipped between January and June 2023, up from 6,600 tonnes in the same period of 2022.

The revenue generated by exports in the first half totaled US$41.2 million, a 222.4% increase from the US$12.8 million recorded in the first six months of 2022.

Considering June alone, 4,600 tonnes of eggs were exported from Brazil, a 901.1% increase from the 469 tonnes exported in June 2022. The revenue growth is 608.6%, with US$11.6 million in the sixth month of this year, compared to US$1.6 million in the same period of the previous year.

“We recorded the best semester in the last ten years in 2023, with the expectation of reaching a new level in Brazilian egg exports in 2023 thanks to the average registered in the last three months, above 4,000 tonnes per month. The volumes shipped between April and June set the best quarter ever recorded by the sector. Although it does not impact the domestic supply of eggs, since it represents less than 1% of production, international sales have consolidated themselves as an important source of revenue for companies in the sector in the face of the challenges generated by production costs in recent times,” said ABPA President Ricardo Santin.

Among the main export destinations, Japan is the main importer, with 6,900 tonnes imported between January and June 2023, 1,304% higher than that recorded in 2022. Taiwan follows closely, with 5,400 tonnes (in the previous year, there was no shipment of products to the Asian destination).

“The recent suspension of Japan from poultry products from Santa Catarina should not have an impact on egg sales from Brazil. In the first half of the year, less than 0.2 tonnes of the product from Santa Catarina were shipped to the Asian destination,” said Market Director Luis Rua.
