Brazilian exports surpass imports by $1.3 billion in third week of April

According to data released by the Secretariat of Foreign Trade (Secex) of the Ministry of Development, Industry, Trade and Services (MDIC) on Monday, April 24th, Brazil’s exports surpassed imports by US$1.304 billion in the third week of April. During that period, Brazilian exports reached US$5.629 billion, and imports amounted to US$4.325 billion (trade flow of US$9.954 billion). In April, exports totaled US$20.183 billion, and imports totaled US$13.849 billion, with a positive balance of US$6.334 billion and a trade flow of US$34.032 billion.
In terms of exports, there was an increase of 1.8% in the average daily sales from the third week of April 2023 (US$1.552.52 million) compared to April 2022 (US$1.524.72 million). In contrast, there was a 2.4% decrease in the average daily imports from the third week of April 2023 (US$1.065.29 million) compared to April 2022 (US$1.091.73 million).
Analyzing Brazil’s exports by sector and product, the daily average compared to the same month of the previous year performed as follows: Agriculture increased by US$69.7 million (16.1%), Extractive Industry decreased by US$0.5 million (-0.2%), and Products of the Manufacturing Industry decreased by US$46.6 million (-6.0%). The highlights among agricultural products were the 22.6% increase in soybean shipments, with an increase of US$80.53 million in the daily average, and the 123.4% increase in non-milled wheat and rye sales, with an increase of US$3.45 million in the daily average.
The same comparison applied to imports shows a US$6.1 million decrease in the accumulated amount up to the third week of April. Purchases from the agriculture sector decreased by 24.2%. Additionally, there was a US$11.04 million (14.7%) increase in Extractive Industry imports and a US$32.67 million (-3.3%) decrease in imports of Products of the Manufacturing Industry.
