Brazilian exports to Canada up 15% in 2021, totaling more than US$3.4 billion (FOB)

According to an analysis by the Chamber of Commerce of Brazil-Canada (CCBC), based on foreign trade data from January to September 2021 released by the Brazilian Foreign Trade Secretariat, there was a 15% increase in Brazilian exports to Canada of US$ 3.4 billion (FOB) and a 10% increase in imports between countries. As a result, the Brazilian trade balance is positive (+ US$1.82 billion), 21% greater than in the same period of 2020. The trade flow (Exports + Imports), between Brazil and Canada, increased by 13.5 %.
Exports of Calcined Alumina increased and contributed to the positive balance, which increased by 13% year on year, reaching US$ 840.4 million and representing 25% of the total exported to Canada in the period.
Cast iron, iron, and steel represented 14% of the total share of exports to Canada and ranked third in the export ranking. Exports grew 122% compared to the same period in 2020 and totaled US$ 480.4 million.
“Sugar and confectionery products” came in fourth in the general ranking of exports, growing 47% to US$ 316.5 million and representing 9.2% of the total exported to Canada.
“Coffee, tea, mate, and spices” was 6th in the ranking of exports to Canada, totaling US$ 86.4 million, an increase of 19% compared to the same period of the previous year and representing 3% of the total exported to Canada.
“Electrical machines, appliances and materials” showed strong exports, increasing almost 40% with almost US$ 46 million exported to Canada. The main items refer to alternating current generators, electric motors, and copper wires.
Products of animal origin also showed remarkable growth, totaling US$ 66.7 million in exports. “Edible meat and offal” was the main highlight, in tenth place in the ranking, with a growth of 148%, reaching almost US$ 40 million.
