Brazilian fertilizer stocks amount to 13 million tonnes, says consultant

Business consultant David Roquetti Filho, who was the executive director of Anda, the National Association for Fertilizer Diffusion, said that Brazilian fertilizer stocks amount to at least 13 million tonnes, including the inputs that have been already internalized and the ones that have been ordered.
“Many [fertilizers] have been bought in anticipation,” said him during a webinar promoted by Insper Agro Global on the night of the 24th, with the theme “Geopolitics and challenges of Brazilian agriculture in turbulent times.”
Roquetti added that stocks should last for four months. Brazil consumes 40 million tonnes of fertilizers annually, 85% of which are imported, mainly from Russia (20%) and Eurasia (65%).
Thus, for him, the concern about the consequences of the conflict between Russia and Ukraine is “real and important.” “However, it should not lead to panic.” Roquetti Filho added that Brazil still has some time to prepare for 2023. “If something is eventually missing (as in fertilizers for planting in the next harvest), it will be only punctual.” However, there is still a big question mark: how long will the war in Eastern Europe last? “That is the key to everything,” he concluded.
