Brazilian fruit exports grow by 5.09% in first half of 2024

Sales of Brazilian fruits abroad recorded a 5.09% revenue growth in the first half of 2024 compared to the same period last year. According to the Brazilian Association of Fruit and Derivatives Exporters (Abrafrutas), the value this year was US$511.9 million, up from US$487 million in the first six months of 2023.

“We are pleased with the performance and optimistic for the second half of the year, which is traditionally the strongest period for Brazilian fruit exports. We expect even more impressive numbers as we continue to expand our presence in international markets,” the association stated.

Abrafrutas attributed the drop in export volume to climate problems that occurred at the end of 2023 and the first half of 2024, significantly affecting the production of key export fruits, such as apples. In the first half of 2023, Brazil exported 34,848 tons of apples. In the same period this year, the volume was 9,256 tons.

The chart below used DataLiner-derived data to unveil some of the most exported fruits by Brazil via containers in the first six months of 2024.

A special mention goes to mangosteen, which Taste Atlas, an online encyclopedia known for evaluating gastronomic items, named the best fruit in the world last year. Brazil exported 1.53 tons of mangosteen in 2023, and this amount jumped to 6.87 tons in 2024, an increase of 349%. Dates and coconuts also saw significant gains, with exports rising 138% and 135%, respectively.

However, more common fruits on Brazilian tables, such as bananas and oranges, saw a decline in sales to foreign countries. Bananas recorded a negative variation of 47%, and oranges, 81%.
