Brazilian hatching egg exports up 9%; still below 2021 results
Aug, 31, 2022 Posted by Gabriel MalheirosWeek 202235
Last June, Brazilian hatching egg exports for the production of broiler chicks exceeded 14 million units, which means that despite having increased by more than 6% compared to May, June 2022 shipments were almost 14.5% below the volume registered in the same month last year.
The total exported in the first six months of 2022 totaled about 96.5 million units, 9.16% more than in the same half of 2021. The year-to-date total for the twelve-month period ended on June/22 – 210,707 million units – showed an increase of close to 47%.
The expansion rates seen in both cases could be much higher, according to exporters, as external demand is steady but cannot be fulfilled hence the necessity of serving the domestic market.
As a result, the export increase should be restricted to the first half of the year, with little chance of reaching the volume seen in the second half of last year, now a six-month record in the Brazilian hatching egg export market.
In fact, to beat such a record, shipments in the rest of 2022 would need to pair with the total exported in the last six months of 2021, that is, 19 million units.
Last semester, the monthly average recorded was less than 85% of this volume, not exceeding 16 million units.
