Brazilian melon exports for the 2023/24 season kicked off at a brisk pace in August, resulting in a notable increase in shipments compared to the same month last year.
According to data released by the Secretariat of Foreign Trade (Secex), the volume exported in August reached approximately 5,910 tonnes, which is 454% higher than last year. The United Kingdom was the primary destination in August, purchasing 48% of the total exports, with the Netherlands coming in second at 41%.

Experts consulted by Hortifruti/Cepea attribute this surge primarily to the reduced supply from the European continent due to adverse weather conditions affecting producers, such as Spain. Consequently, foreign demand for Brazilian melons has increased, favoring Brazilian exporters.
For September, Brazilian melon exports are expected to continue to grow, with shipments surpassing those of 2022.
