The Brazilian Federal Police (PF in Portuguese) and the Federal Revenue Service seized 1.5 tonnes of cocaine on Sunday (5) aboard a ship docked at the Port of Vitória in Espírito Santo, Brazil.
The agents uncovered the drug after receiving information that the vessel was being used for drug trafficking to Europe. The cocaine was concealed within 52 bundles, ready to be thrown into the sea.
All crew members of the ship provided statements, but no one was arrested. Fingerprints and samples of genetic material were collected for future comparison with suspects’ records.
In total, 50 agents and 14 sniffer dogs participated in the operation, which resulted from monitoring efforts with the support of other countries. This international cooperation has led to seizures in the ports of Santos, Tenerife, and Hamburg this year as well.
