Brazilian pork exports grow 11.7% in January

A survey by the Brazilian Animal Protein Association (ABPA) showed that Brazilian pork exports (including fresh and processed products) totaled 99.6 thousand tonnes in January, up 11.7% year-on-year from 89.2 thousand tonnes.

The sector’s international sales totaled US$ 199 million in revenue, an end balance 6.3% lower than the figure registered in January 2023, US$ 212.4 million.

China, the largest international buyer of Brazilian pork, imported 23.1 thousand tonnes in January (-44.6% compared to the previous year). On a different note, the Philippines imported 12.3 thousand tonnes (+241.3%) during the same period, followed by Chile (10.8 thousand tonnes +65.7%), Hong Kong (9.5 thousand tonnes +34%), and Singapore (5.1 thousand tonnes +10%).

Santa Catarina leads the list of the top exporting states, with 55.5 thousand tonnes exported in January, 11% more than the same period in 2023. Rio Grande do Sul is next, with 21.2 thousand tonnes (+3.44%), followed by Paraná with 10.9 thousand tonnes (+4.9%), Mato Grosso with 2.6 thousand tonnes (+25.8%), and Mato Grosso do Sul with 2.5 thousand tonnes (+23.8%).

“There is a diversification in the destinations of pork exports, with the establishment of greater demand in certain Asian nations. This month, we also saw countries in the Americas, such as Chile and the United States, reinforce their purchases,” analyzes the president of ABPA, Ricardo Santin.
