Brazilian pork exports break all time record in 2019

According to data released today (06/01) by the Brazilian Association of Animal Protein (ABPA), Brazilian pork sales (considering all products from fresh to processed) reached record volumes in 2019. In total, 750.3 thousand tons were shipped over the 12 months of last year. The number is 16.2% higher than in 2018, when 646 thousand tons were shipped.
In December alone, 76 thousand tons were shipped, 35.1% higher than in December 2018, when 56.2 thousand tons were shipped. It is the largest monthly number ever recorded in the sector.
In revenues, total sales reached US $ 1.597 billion, 31.9% higher than the result in 2018, when it reached US $ 1.2 billion. In December, sales reached $ 183.6 million – the highest monthly number ever achieved in the industry.
The big boost for pork exports in 2019 came from sales to Asia – a region heavily impacted by African swine flu. China imported 248.80 thousand tons from Brazil, 61% more than in 2018. Vietnam increased its imports by 82.6%, with a total of 13.54 thousand tons in 2019.
In South America, Uruguay was the main destination, with 40.48 thousand tons imported, 12.8% higher compared to 2018. Chile was also a highlight, with imports of 44.54 thousand tons. In Eastern Europe, Russia imported 35.28 thousand tons.
