However, revenue from May exports totaled $225.2 million, reflecting a 10.4% decrease from the $251.4 million recorded in the same period last year.

From January to May, pork exports amounted to 506.6 thousand tonnes, marking a 5.3% increase over the 481.1 thousand tonnes exported during the same period in 2023. Despite this volume growth, revenue for the first five months of the year was $1.064 billion, a 7.3% decline from the $1.149 billion generated in the same period last year.

“The pace of exports remains positive compared to the record set in 2023. Asia and the Americas continue to drive the sector’s international sales, although there have been changes among the top importers. We expect results comparable to or exceeding last year’s, with an increased presence in new destinations,” said Ricardo Santin, president of ABPA.

China, the largest importer of Brazilian pork, received 111.4 thousand tonnes between January and May, a 36.7% decrease from the same period last year. Conversely, the Philippines imported 70.2 thousand tonnes, an 84.8% increase over the same period in 2023. Other notable importers include Chile, with 43.017 thousand tons (+25.7%), Hong Kong, with 43.006 thousand tons (-16.2%), Singapore, with 32.3 thousand tons (+11.2%), and Japan, with 27.4 thousand tons (+92.8%).

“The export flow to Asia is evolving, with significant growth in sales to the Philippines, Singapore, and Japan, which offsets the decline in Chinese imports and expands the reach of Brazilian exports. Additionally, we see a resurgence of imports from our long-time partner, Russia,” noted Luís Rua, ABPA’s Market Director.

On a state level, Santa Catarina remains the leading exporter, with 280.5 thousand tons exported from January to May, a 7.3% increase from the same period last year. Following are Rio Grande do Sul, with 106.2 thousand tons (-4.1%), Paraná, with 65.3 thousand tons (-1.75%), Mato Grosso, with 14.8 thousand tons (+46.3%), and Mato Grosso do Sul, with 11 thousand tons (+1.4%).
