Brazilian exports of poultry protein – including all byproducts, fresh and processed – totaled 4.8 million tonnes in 2022. The volume is a historical record and exceeds by 4.6% the total exported in the twelve months of 2021, 4.6 million tonnes. Exports revenue reached USD 9.7 billion, another unprecedented result, 27.4% higher than in 2021. Data are from the Brazilian Association of Animal Protein (ABPA).

Solely in December, poultry exports reached 386,300 tonnes, 6% lower than in the last month of 2021. On the other hand, there was a 9.2% increase in revenue in the same comparison, with USD 785.2 million.
China remained first among the main export destinations, with 540,500 tonnes imported from January to December 2022, 15.6% lower than in 2021. The United Arab Emirates came second, with 444,900 tonnes in 2022, up 14.2% from the previous year. Other highlights were the Philippines, with 246,300 tonnes (+46.5%), the European Union, with 237,900 tonnes (+22.8%), and South Korea, with 185,400 tonnes (+62 .9%).
“The reconfiguration of the global animal protein market, marked by the effects of the conflict in Eastern Europe, increased production costs in the European Union, and the sanitary situation of poultry farming in the five continents, were among the determining factors for the records last year. In this context, Brazil, which has never recorded cases and is free of Avian Influenza, has remained a safe haven for the global supply of poultry protein and is expected to sustain the same export levels in 2023,” stated in a note the president of ABPA, Ricardo Santin.
