Brazilian Revenue Service announces 1st cocaine seizure of the year in Paranagua
Feb, 24, 2023 Posted by Gabriel MalheirosWeek 202309
On the morning of February 23rd, Federal Revenue officials completed the first cocaine seizure at the Container Terminal of the Port of Paranaguá (TCP).
The drug tablets were in the compartment that houses the engine of a refrigerated container loaded with 27 tonnes of chicken gizzards. The box would be shipped to the Port of Durban in South Africa.
In total, 36 kilos of narcotics were seized. Nobody was arrested.
Thanks to risk management and monitoring systems for the structures moved in the port terminal, an effort repeated daily in the facilities inspected by the Federal Revenue, the container was scanned, and the drug tablets were located and seized.
The preliminary investigation, carried out by the federal agency, points out that the narcotic was introduced into the container without the exporter’s or importer’s knowledge.
It was the first confiscation of cocaine carried out in 2023 by the Federal Revenue in the Port of Paranaguá. In the previous year, approximately 1,100 kilos of the drug were confiscated.
