Brazilian Sugar Export Outlook for October 2024

The total number of ships waiting to load sugar at Brazilian ports was 60 in the week ending December 4, the same number as the previous week (November 27), according to a survey conducted by the maritime agency Williams Brasil. According to the report, the total volume scheduled for shipment is 2.330 million tons of sugar, slightly above the 2.324 million tons recorded the previous week.

The Port of Santos (SP) remains the central loading hub, accounting for 1.347 million tonnes. Next are the ports of Paranaguá, in Paraná (731,238 tonnes); São Sebastião, in São Paulo (93,300 tonnes); Suape, in Pernambuco (30,300 tonnes); Maceió, in Alagoas (33,000 tonnes); Recife, also in Pernambuco (79,800 tonnes); and Itajaí, in Santa Catarina (15,000 tonnes).

The sugar cargoes scheduled for export include the following varieties:

VHP (2.180 million tonnes),
TBC (114,348 tonnes),
VHP in bags (equivalent to 11,500 tonnes),
Crystal B-150 (15,000 tonnes).

The Williams Brasil survey considers ships already docked, those waiting for berths, and vessels expected to arrive by December 19.

October Sugar Export Performance

According to data released by the Foreign Trade Secretariat (Secex), the daily average revenue from Brazilian sugar and molasses exports in October was USD 80.193 million over 22 working days. The daily average volume exported reached 169,516 tonnes during this period. In total, 3.729 million tonnes of sugar were shipped in October, generating USD 1.764 billion in revenue, with an average price of USD 473.10 per tonne.

Compared to October 2023, daily average revenue increased by 14.4% in October 2024, rising from USD 73.428 million to USD 80.193 million. The daily export volume grew by 29.8% compared to the 136,869 tons recorded during the same period in the previous year. However, the average price per tonne dropped 11.8%, from USD 536.50 in 2023 to USD 473.10 in 2024.

The total volume exported in October 2024 was 29.7% higher than in the same month of 2023, when sugar exports totaled 2.874 million tonnes. Meanwhile, export revenue grew by 14%, compared to the USD 1.542 billion recorded in October 2023.
