Brazilian trade balance has a surplus of US$ 1.7 billion in the 1st week of August

The Brazilian trade balance registered a surplus of US$ 1.7 billion in the first week of August, informed the Foreign Trade Secretariat of the Ministry of Development, Industry, Commerce and Services (Secex/Mdic).
The value is the result of exports of US$ 5.52 billion and imports of US$ 3.82 billion in the period. In the year, the balance accumulates a surplus of US$ 55.26 billion.
The daily average of exports in the first week of the month (US$ 1.38 billion) rose 3.1% compared to August last year.
The rise was driven by shipments from agriculture (+8.1%), followed by the manufacturing industry (+4.2%). The extractive industry, in turn, exported 3.4% less in the period, considering the daily average.
The daily average of imports in the first week of August fell 17.7%, to US$ 955 million, when compared to the same month of the previous year. The agricultural sector led the decline (-46.6%), followed by the manufacturing industry (-20.1%). Purchases by the extractive industry, however, grew 26.9% in the period.
