Brazil imported 447,500 tons of wheat in September at a cost of US$ 123.34 million, according to data released on October 16 from Agrostat – the Brazilian agribusiness foreign trade statistics system.

Of the total volume, 391,300 tons were from Argentina. Most of this volume refers to contracts closed in the first months of the year, with shipments scheduled to take place during the national off-season, according to operators that work with cereal imports.

The volume was 4.9% lower than the 470,500 tons purchased by the country in the same month last year.

The cost was 18.6% higher than the US$ 103.99 million spent in September last year.

The average price of imported wheat increased 24.7% – from US$ 221.01 per ton in August 2020 to US$ 275.61 per ton last month. The numbers reflect the appreciation of the dollar against the real in comparison with the same month last year and the rise in the price of wheat in the US currency.
