The export figures for the Brazilian wine and sparkling wine sector have displayed a promising upward trajectory, with a 1.7% growth recorded from January to June 2023 in comparison to the same period of 2022. According to data disclosed by the Foreign Trade Secretariat (Secex), Brazilian wineries successfully exported USD 5,775,799 during the first half of this year. Among the key destinations for these national labels, Uruguay, the United States, Paraguay, and China stand out prominently.
While the wine segment continues to capture the majority of the export market (accounting for 80.94% of total exports), the sparkling wine sector has demonstrated remarkable dynamism. Acclaimed as a focal point in the sector’s international promotion, exports of sparkling wines produced using the traditional method surged by 5.4% from January to June 2023 compared to the corresponding months in the previous year. Notably, the exports of sparkling wines crafted using the Charmat method witnessed a remarkable doubling in value, reflecting an impressive 108% growth. This category escalated from USD 114.9 thousand in 2022 to USD 239.3 thousand this year.
Brazil boasts the distinction of being the largest producer of sparkling wines in Latin America and the sixth-largest producer of wines in the Southern Hemisphere.

“Brazilian wines have been gaining international recognition due to efforts in promotion through entities such as Consevitis-RS and ApexBrasil, allied to investments by wineries in the foreign market. This growth demonstrates the sector’s strength in the face of economic adversities. Today, we have much higher engagement compared to the past. For example, we have wineries with brand ambassadors and our own offices in the United States and China. The prospect is that this growth will be even greater by the end of the year when the main international negotiations are held. The continuity of the partnership with ApexBrasil for international promotion is extremely important so that this growth can be continued in the long term”, commented Rafael Romagna, the International Market Manager at the State of Rio Grande do Sul Wine Industry Institute (Consevitis-RS).
Notably, the Brazilian wine sector achieved a remarkable milestone in 2022, breaking promotional activities and export value records. The industry witnessed trade worth USD 13.6 million, reflecting a substantial 10.5% increase compared to 2021.
