The governments of Amazonas and Peru convened in Brasília to discuss future commercial integration with the soon-to-be-inaugurated Port of Chancay, a strategically important new route for Brazilian access to the Pacific.

Representing Amazonas was Serafim Corrêa, Secretary of Economic Development, Science, Technology, and Innovation (Sedecti), while Peru was represented by Ambassador Rómulo Acurio.

Serafim Corrêa emphasized that the port could prove to be an asset to the goods produced in the Manaus Industrial Pole (PIM), promoting further trade between South America and China. “We want to integrate the Manaus Free Trade Zone into this project as an extension of the initial proposal for the Port of Chancay,” he stated.

Ambassador Acurio hailed the collaboration between the two countries as a significant step for their economic development, highlighting the Port of Chancay’s commercial potential and its importance for the Manaus Free Trade Zone and the Amazonas region.

“We had a very productive discussion about the commercial potential of Peru’s rivers, the Pacific coast, particularly the new Port of Chancay, and Manaus, the Free Trade Zone, and the Amazonas region,” said the ambassador.

The next integration roundtables will take place in Manaus. Peruvian authorities and local business leaders will discuss the project in detail before the port’s inauguration in November.
