The National Waterway Transportation Agency (ANTAQ) conducted 4,431 inspections, a significant increase compared to the 3,037 inspections carried out in 2018. The data were disclosed during the presentation of the 2023 Waterway Performance by the National Waterway Transportation Agency (ANTAQ) on February 7.
In addition to regular inspections, the implementation of theme-specific inspections and the intensification of dredging inspections in Itajaí/SC stand out. The number of fines issued decreased, as did the number of notifications and the rate of remaining irregularities. This demonstrates the effectiveness of responsive oversight, aimed at educating users and the sector.
Concessions
The concessions of port facilities (leases, TUPs, Cargo Transshipment Stations, and Tourism Port Facilities) increased by 1% in 2023.
The Agency acknowledges the importance of legal and regulatory certainty as a fundamental pillar to attract investments in the waterway sector, as it creates an inviting environment for investments, which in turn drives port throughput and generates more concessions. This creates a virtuous cycle that benefits the entire sector.
“Investments are essential for the growth of the waterway sector but depend on an inviting environment with legal and regulatory certainty. ANTAQ has been creating this environment, focusing on the efficiency and modernization of port infrastructure,” said ANTAQ’s Concessions Superintendent, Renildo Barros, during the presentation of the 2023 Waterway Performance.
Projections for 2024
This year’s plans include extending the CPAI/SP app across the country, establishing a National Monitoring Center for Port Terminals, and implementing a new model of responsive oversight.
