Brazil’s August Pork Exports Reach Second-Highest Volume on Record

Brazilian pork exports (both fresh and processed) reached 118,100 tons in August, according to the Brazilian Animal Protein Association (ABPA). This volume, 4.7% higher than in August 2023, was the second-best monthly result in the sector’s history.
In the same comparison, revenue reached a record-breaking $276.3 million, up 9.1% from the previous year. In Brazilian reais, the figure also hit an all-time high, with revenue increasing by 23.4% to BRL 1.534 billion, according to ABPA.
In the first eight months of this year, pork shipments totaled 870,200 tons, representing a 7.7% increase compared to the same period last year. Conversely, revenue fell by 1.6% to $1.885 billion.

Destinations
The Philippines remained the top destination for Brazilian pork, importing 28,000 tons in August, an 80% increase from the same period last year. China was second with 16,300 tons (-46%), followed by Chile with 12,300 tons (+48%), Hong Kong with 9,500 tons (+5%), and Japan with 8,100 tons (+170%).
“Brazilian pork exports have gained new players, with the Philippines and Chile showing significant growth. Japan has also emerged as a major market, importing high-value-added products and now ranking among the top five destinations for Brazilian pork,” said Ricardo Santin, president of ABPA.
Leading Pork Exporting States
Santa Catarina leads Brazilian pork exports, although its shipments fell by 0.4% in August to 62,500 tons.
Rio Grande do Sul exported 26,000 tons last month, a 13.6% increase from August 2023. Other notable states included Mato Grosso (3,200 tons +4%), Paraná (16,700 tons +8%), and Mato Grosso do Sul (2,500 tons + 13.9%).
