Brazil’s Chicken Exports Hold Steady in Second Week of October
Oct, 16, 2024 Posted by Gabriel MalheirosWeek 202440
Contrary to usual trends, Brazil’s chicken exports during the second week of October (October 6-12, five business days) maintained the same pace as the first week, avoiding any significant decline. Over the nine-day period, daily export volumes consistently surpassed 20,000 tonnes, bringing the total to more than 180,000 tonnes (80,901 tonnes in the first week and 100,042 tonnes in the second week).
While the current daily average is 6.5% lower than in September, it represents an almost 13% increase compared to October 2023. With one additional business day this month, total exports are expected to rise by over 15%, once again exceeding 400,000 tonnes.
The average price per tonne—US$1,951.85—experienced a slight decline of less than 0.5% compared to the first week of October. Despite this dip, it remains the second-highest price level in nearly 18 months, only trailing August’s figures. The surge in prices that month followed Brazil’s temporary suspension of some exports due to an isolated Newcastle disease case, which briefly pushed prices above US$2,000 per tonne.
