Brazil’s Chicken Meat Exports Surge to New Record in April 2024

Brazil exported 471,000 tonnes of poultry meat in April, marking a 15.5% increase from the previous month and an almost 11% rise compared to April 2023. This volume includes whole chickens, cuts, processed products, and salted chicken meat, according to data from the Foreign Trade Secretariat (SECEX) of the Ministry of Development, Industry, Commerce and Services (MDIC).

This achievement not only sets a new record for April but also represents the second-highest monthly volume ever recorded by the sector, outshined only by the 504,500 tonnes exported in March last year.

Due to this robust performance, the year-to-date export decline has significantly narrowed. While the first quarter showed a deficit of nearly 7.5%, the difference compared to the same period in 2023 has now reduced to less than 3%, equivalent to approximately 50,000 tons, or about two days of shipments.

Over the last 12 months, the sector has continued to grow, with a 2.18% increase compared to the previous period.

April also marked the first annual increase in foreign exchange revenue, exceeding April 2023 revenue by more than 5%, despite the average price still being lower than last year.

However, this revenue gain was insufficient to offset the declines recorded over the first four months and the last 12 months, which saw decreases of 11.41% and 8.37%, respectively, compared to previous periods.
