The Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (Mapa) spearheaded Brazil’s participation at SIAL Canada 2024 in Montreal from May 15 to 17. The Brazil pavilion hosted 19 companies from the food and beverage sector, providing them with a comprehensive setup for meetings with potential buyers, alongside product exhibitions and tastings.

Key participants included Abrafrutas (the Brazilian Association of Fruit and Derivative Exporters) and Invest Paraná, which highlighted the bioeconomy and biodiversity of Paraná’s products. Prominent Brazilian offerings included fruits, honey, yerba mate, bovine collagen, specialty chocolates, rice, processed onions and garlic, and vegetable essences.

The Brazil pavilion exhibitors secured around $1 million in deals during the fair, with projections to reach $30 million over the next 12 months. Other Brazilian firms also participated through the Brazil-Canada Chamber of Commerce, ABIEC – Brazilian Beef (the Brazilian Association of Meat Exporting Industries), or their own booths, reflecting the importance of the event.

SIAL Canada, the largest food innovation fair in North America, featured over 800 exhibitors from 44 countries. In 2023, it attracted more than 21,000 visitors from over 60 countries.

According to the Department of Trade Promotion and Investments of Mapa’s Secretariat of Commerce and International Relations, Brazil’s involvement in the event fostered substantial opportunities for commercial contacts, business development, and market expansion, enhancing trade flow between the two countries and the broader region. Mapa’s next participation in Canada is slated for 2025, in Toronto.
