On August 3rd and 4th, the Port of Itajaí saw the arrival of two Roll-On/Roll-Off (Ro-Ro) vessels specially designed for transporting cargo on wheels.
The Cape Town Highway vessel arrived on Thursday afternoon, carrying 281 BMW vehicles. The Canadian Highway arrived shortly after its departure on Friday, with operations beginning early on Saturday. General Motors (GM) and BMW had 643 vehicles on the ship.
The arrival of the Cape Town Highway marked the 20th berthing of a vessel of such kind; it brought approximately 281 BMW vehicles and managed a total cargo weight of 493.1 tonnes. This 199.90-meter vessel had previously been in the port of Santos and, after leaving Itajaí, continued its journey to Montevideo (Uruguay).
The 21st docking, with the Canadian Highway as its protagonist, brought in 643 vehicles from BMW and General Motors (GM). This time, vehicles came from two manufacturers – 401 from BMW, 241 from GM, and one diplomat vehicle. The cargo’s cumulative weight totaled 1,343 tonnes. The Canadian Highway departed from the port of Paranaguá and eventually reached its final destination at the port of Zarate (Argentina).
This year, the Port of Itajaí has witnessed the arrival of nine “Ro-Ro” ships, with 6,695 vehicles landing, amounting to 12,021 tonnes. The first docking of such vessels occurred on January 31 with the ship California Highway.
The previous year’s data shows 21 dockings on March 16, 2022, unloading 14,693 vehicles and totaling 27,290 tons.
