Brazil’s Minister of Ports and Airports, Silvio Costa Filho, met with Ukraine’s Ambassador to Brazil, Endrii Melnyk, on Thursday (6) to discuss the beginning of a promising bilateral partnership. The meeting highlighted both countries’ interest in strengthening ties and exploring investment and expansion opportunities in the port and waterway sectors.

At the start of the discussion, Minister Silvio Costa Filho expressed his deep sorrow over the ongoing war in Ukraine. He conveyed the solidarity of the Brazilian people and stressed the hope for a swift restoration of peace.

He then provided an overview of Brazil’s positive economic momentum, highlighting economic growth, declining unemployment, and record investment volumes in ports, waterways, and airports through major concession programs.

Costa also emphasized Brazil’s openness to partnerships with Ukraine in various sectors and presented the Ministry’s “Portfolio of Concessions and Leases,” which includes port infrastructure projects with significant potential to attract foreign investors.

Ambassador Melnyk, in turn, stated that despite the war, Ukraine’s economy is growing, and once the conflict ends, the country will require significant recovery efforts. In this context, investments from Brazil will be crucial, fostering exchanges in port and waterway expertise.

Minister Silvio Costa Filho also expressed Brazil’s interest in expanding partnership agendas with Ukraine beyond the port sector, particularly in the fertilizer industry. Brazil is in high demand and sees Ukraine as a promising trade partner.
