Brazil’s Port of Imbituba secures environmental license for R$10.4 mln expansion project

Santa Catarina Governor Jorginho Mello and the president of the State Environmental Institute (IMA), Sheila Meirelles, delivered the Installation Environmental License (LAI) last Thursday (10th) for rock removal (submerged rock dredging) and dredging works at the beginning of Pier 1 at the Port of Imbituba.
The investment of R$ 10.4 million will be fully funded by SCPAR Porto de Imbituba, the Port Authority, and the project is expected to be completed by the end of this year. The goal is to expand the berthing area and deepen the location to 15 meters, allowing the port to receive larger vessels. Alongside constructing a mooring dolphin at the tip of Berth 2 — a project scheduled to begin soon — the Port Authority will increase the total berth line between Piers 1 and 2 from the current 660 meters to 710 meters. This will enable the port to accommodate up to three ships simultaneously, with greater frequency.
According to Port CEO Christiano Lopes, the expansion of Pier 1 is a key part of the investment package aimed at boosting the Imbituba Port Complex’s competitiveness and efficiency in the coming years. “Our current efforts include simultaneous actions in areas such as infrastructure, access, space optimization, process automation, and commercial management, all with the goal of strategically and sustainably expanding the Port’s operational capacity,” said the executive.
