Brazilian exports of poultry genetics, including day-old chicks and fertile eggs, totaled 1.9 thousand tonnes in September, a 7.2% increase compared to the same period last year, according to data from the Brazilian Animal Protein Association (ABPA). Revenue reached USD 18.7 million, marking a 5.4% rise. Over the first nine months of 2024, poultry genetics exports amounted to 20.2 thousand tonnes, surpassing the 19.1 thousand tonnes exported during the same period in 2023.
Despite the growth in volume, the ABPA reported that revenue from shipments between January and September stood at USD 170 million, a 5.5% drop compared to the previous year. For the second consecutive month, Venezuela emerged as the leading destination for Brazilian poultry genetics exports, receiving 678 tonnes—a staggering 1,395% increase year-on-year. Mexico followed with 504 tonnes, a sharp decline of 50.9%, while Senegal imported 251 tonnes (-22.1%), Paraguay 167 tonnes (-5.3%), and Saudi Arabia 124 tonnes (+141.6%).
In a video statement, ABPA market coordinator Laiz Foltran commented on Venezuela’s performance, attributing the growth to “strong local demand aimed at the development and restructuring of the national poultry industry.” She also noted that Mexico, previously the top destination, had dropped to second place in September, with a significant decrease of nearly 50%.
