Brazil’s Q1 beef shipments reach 2nd best performance in history
Apr, 11, 2023 Posted by Gabriel MalheirosWeek 202318
From January to March of this year, Brazilian exports of fresh beef totaled 411.08 thousand tonnes, below only the sales registered in the same period of 2022 (down 12.36%), when the record for the first quarter was set, according to Secex data.
Compared to the first quarter of 2021, there is a substantial increase of 19.75% in the volume sold to the foreign market. However, Cepea researchers indicate that suspending beef shipments to China for a month prevented the result from being even better in 2023.
In the Brazilian market, strong foreign sales also influenced the restitution of live cattle prices, especially in the second half of March. Last month, the Cepea/B3 price index (state of São Paulo) increased by a significant 10.45%, closing at R$ 295.95 on the 31st.
