Brazilian exports of rice (husk basis) totaled 62.5 thousand tons in February—a volume 43.6% lower than that recorded in 2024. The value declined 36.8%, amounting to US$21.6 million. The Brazilian Rice Industry Association (Abiarroz) released the data based on figures from the Ministry of Development, Industry, Trade and Services.
Meanwhile, rice imports reached 152.2 thousand tons (husk basis) in February, representing an increase of 9.7% compared to last year. In value, however, there was a 20.5% drop, down to US$46.2 million.
In the first two months of the year, rice exports (husk basis) fell by 4%, to 175 thousand tons, compared to the same period in 2024. In value, the contraction was 5.6%, reaching US$57.5 million. Year-to-date imports shrank 20.2% in volume, to 270.8 thousand tons, and by 40.9% in value, to US$86.5 million.
Processed Rice
The industry’s international shipments of processed rice amounted to 22.5 thousand tons in February 2025, a drop of 68.9% compared to the same period in 2024. In value, shipments decreased by 54% to US$11.4 million.
“The new harvest began at the end of February and the beginning of March. Therefore, there was not much product available last month, considering that last year’s harvest was smaller. This was the main reason for the decline in Brazilian exports,” stated Gustavo Trevisan, International Affairs Director at Abiarroz.
The main destinations for processed rice exports in February were Peru, Cuba, Cape Verde, Saudi Arabia, Uruguay, Trinidad and Tobago, the United States, Panama, São Tomé and Príncipe, and Curaçao. Abiarroz highlighted exports to Peru, which totaled 10.6 thousand tons in the month and were valued at US$5.3 million.
