Brazil’s Santa Catarina newest port unveiled: Porto Brasil Sul

Porto Brasil Sul, a massive port development project, was formally introduced at the Commercial Association of São Francisco do Sul by the company’s CEO, former senator Paulo Bauer. Situated on Sumidouro beach, between Capri and Praia do Forte, the future port will boast five terminals and six berths, with the capacity to accommodate large ships, including post-Panamax and mega containerships, thanks to its natural draft of 18 meters.
“To illustrate the scale of this project, the parking area alone will have the capacity for 6,000 vehicles,” Bauer remarked.
Private Investment
The World Port company, a subsidiary of the Ciser Group in Joinville, owns the site, which spans 1.1 million square meters and will house the terminals and common areas. The project represents a private investment of $1.4 billion and is expected to be completed in eight years, contingent upon timely environmental licensing.
“Under optimal conditions, we could start receiving ships within four years,” Bauer added. During this period, the project will also integrate a rail connection and gain access to the BR-280 highway, whose dualling is projected to be finished before the port’s completion.
