From January to November of 2023, agribusiness exports in São Paulo increased by 5.3% compared to last year, reaching USD 25.30 billion. In the annual comparison, there was a 1.1% reduction in imports, totaling USD 4.65 billion, resulting in a surplus of USD 20.65 billion, which is 6.9% higher than in 2022.
These figures are from the Institute of Agricultural Economics (IEA) of the São Paulo Agency for Agribusiness Technology (APTA), an agency of the State Secretariat of Agriculture and Supply.
Exports from São Paulo’s agribusiness accounted for 39.4% of the state’s overall total, while the share of sectoral imports was 7%.
“It is an honor to see these figures. This shows that São Paulo’s agribusiness is on the right track. I am sure that we will surpass the final balance of 2022 and break all records,” said Secretary Guilherme Piai in a statement.
According to the Department of Agriculture, the presented numbers indicate a significant possibility of São Paulo’s agribusiness exports and balance exceeding the record values (USD 25.98 billion and USD 20.89 billion, respectively) obtained in 2022.
The five main product groups in São Paulo’s agribusiness exports in the eleven months of 2023, representing 79.2% of sales, were: the sugarcane and alcohol complex (USD 9.33 billion, with sugar accounting for 87.7% and ethyl alcohol – ethanol, 12.3%), the soy complex (USD 3.47 billion, with soybeans accounting for 83% of the group), the meat sector (USD 2.83 billion, where beef represented 82.2%), forest products (USD 2.45 billion, with 50.6% cellulose and 41.3% paper), and the juice group (USD 1.96 billion, of which 97.5% was orange juice).
As for the leading products in the agribusiness import schedule from January to November 2023, they were paper (USD 368.86 million), followed by salmon (USD 348.61 million) and wheat (USD 285.87 million). The top ten products represent 43.1% (USD 2.01 billion) of the total imported (USD 4.65 billion).
