Vehicle production in Brazil reached 230,000 units in September, marking an 11.4% decline compared to August, according to data released on Monday (7th) by the National Association of Motor Vehicle Manufacturers (Anfavea). Despite this drop, the organization highlighted that motor vehicle production stood at 736,000 from July to September, marking the highest quarterly output in the past five years.
Year-to-date, vehicle assembly rose by 7%, totaling 1.874 million units.
Sales of cars, light commercial vehicles, trucks, and buses followed a similar pattern, amounting to 236,300 units—down 0.4% from the previous month but up 14.1% for the year, reaching 1.86 million units. Anfavea noted that Brazil is currently experiencing its best daily vehicle registration average in five years.
Exports saw growth in the third quarter, though they fell short of industry expectations. Export figures rose to 119,000 units, up from 83,000 between April and June. However, total exports for the year declined to 284,000 vehicles, compared to 323,000 during the same period last year.
Imports also surged in the third quarter, increasing to 124,000 units from 90,000 in the first quarter and 107,000 in the second. Cumulative imports for the year rose from 237,000 units in 2023 to 322,000 in 2024.
Anfavea also pointed out that between 70,000 and 80,000 imported vehicles are currently in stock, the majority of which come from China.
