The Ministry of Agriculture did not formally notify BRF about China’s decision to ban chicken meat imports from its operation in Lucas do Rio Verde (MT), stated the firm to Broadcast Agro, Grupo Estado’s real-time news system.
The Chinese reported that the purchase ban went into force on Saturday, March 5, without specifying when the ban will be lifted or the rationale behind the decision.
The firm stated it heard of the decision through a Chinese announcement on the official website of the General Administration of Customs of China (GACC).
BRF also stated that it will take the necessary steps “to rectify the problem with the Chinese and Brazilian authorities.”
The company also reaffirmed that “it has stringent food safety and quality control mechanisms and maintains its commitment to ensuring the highest levels of quality and safety.”
The Ministry of Agriculture was contacted but has not yet voiced any opinion.
