Recife, the capital city of Pernambuco, hosted for the first time a Business Opportunities with Africa Seminar. The event was organized by the International Institute FEAFRO and the Afro-Brazilian Chamber of Commerce. During its 28 meetings spread throughout several business roundtables, the seminar shed light on the possibility of creating a commercial maritime route connecting the Brazilian Northeast to the African continent, with Cape Verde as its hub.
A group of businessmen and investors met with entrepreneur Gabriel Araújo from the Brazilian company Alfa Mares to develop a maritime logistics project between the Brazilian Northeast and West Africa.
The idea is to strengthen the market for micro, small and medium-sized entrepreneurs to allow them to internationalize their operations by using a nine-day ocean navigation route to Cape Verde in small ships with up to 800 tons and capacity for 120 containers.
“The first step has already been taken. We are forming a committee, including companies from the private sector who were present at the event and are willing to help. We will also look for other Pernambuco entrepreneurs and public-sector entities to help us launch this navigation route based on this maritime logistics project, emphasizes the president of the FEAFRO International Institute, Silvana Saraiva.
“We intend to involve the entire northeastern region and Brazil’s North with an Atlantic-centered view, using Cape Verde as a hub to rach other West African countries such as Angola, Nigeria, and Senegal,” summarizes Gabriel.
