Cachaça exports in 2022 show a fully recovered sector, at least in the foreign market. According to a survey conducted from January to November, cachaça exports increased by 54.74% in value earned (US$18.47 million) and 30.38% in volume (8.6 million liters) compared to the same period in 2021.
The data are from Comex Stat (Ministry of Economy), compiled by the Brazilian Institute of Cachaça (IBRAC). Currently, the traditional Brazilian spirit is exported to 72 countries. Regarding export value, the main buyers are the United States, Germany, Portugal, Italy, France, and Paraguay.
“The export value for this period [January to November 2022] is US$ 18.47 million. This is the highest figure seen in the last 12 years, and higher than the pre-pandemic period sales when US$ 14.60 million in export value was recorded at the end of 2019,” says Carlos Lima, executive director of IBRAC.
Lima points out a set of initiatives carried out by IBRAC and other market groups to give impetus to the recovery of the sector, Some of these initiatives are the Sectorial Project for the Promotion of Cachaça Exports – Cachaça: Taste The New; Taste Brasil, developed by IBRAC, in partnership with the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency – Apex-Brasil.
“This year’s numbers deserve to be celebrated, and we hope we can also celebrate our performance in the domestic market,” Lima emphasizes.
According to the Cachaça Yearbook (2021 data), there are currently 4,969 Cachaça brands registered at the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, and Supply – MAPA, and 936 Cachaça producing establishments.
