In an extraordinary meeting on January 15th, the Executive Management Committee of the Foreign Trade Chamber (GECEX/CAMEX) approved the temporary reduction of the import tax to zero for 258 products. Among other products, the measure includes vital sign monitors, O² (oxygen) sensors, tanks (cylinders) for storing medical gases, and various medical supplies that allow intensifying the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic.
On the same date, the Committee also suspended the anti-dumping duty on plastic vacuum tubes for the collection of blood. Both measures came into force on January 16, when they were published in an extra edition of the Federal Register.
According to the agency, since the publication of GECEX Resolution No. 17 of March last year, the Brazilian government has been making temporary tariff reductions to increase the supply of goods used to deal with the Covid-19 pandemic. The adjustments to the list of tariff reductions are promoted taking into account the monitoring of the epidemiological circumstances verified in the country.
Currently, the list of tariff reductions includes a total of 561 products. The two measures approved today by GECEX are expected to remain in effect until June 30, 2021
